NRA Rifle Instructor Training

This 2-day course teaches the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Basic Rifle Shooting course as an instructor.  Coffee & donuts will be provided in the morning, but please bring a bag lunch for mid-day.  Also, a cabin rental is available for those who choose stay overnight at Camp Tamarancho.  For a complete list of NRA courses offered this Winter & Spring 2023, please click here!

Prerequisite: Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a prerequisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Prior to the instructor training, candidates must complete an NRA Basic Rifle Shooting class (also offered on Saturday, February 25, 2023), complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises.

Allows the participant to serve as a BB Gun Range Master for Cub Scouts, to teach BSA 30 minute Rifle Briefing, teach BSA Rifle Shooting merit badge using modern cartridge or air rifle option (with MB training & Advancement Committee approval), teach NRA First Steps Rifle Orientation, teach NRA Basic Rifle course.

NRA Instructor Certification Requirements:

To apply for instructor certification, a candidate must:

• Possess and demonstrate a solid background in firearm safety and shooting skills acquired through previous firearm training and/or previous shooting experience. Instructor candidates must be intimately familiar with each action type in the discipline they wish to be certified.
• Demonstrate solid and safe firearms handling skills required to be successful during an instructor training course by completing pre-course questionnaires and qualification exercises administered by an NRA Appointed Training Counselor.
• Satisfactorily complete the NRA Basic course in the discipline they wish to teach.
• Satisfactorily complete an NRA Instructor Training Course in the discipline they wish to teach (e.g., NRA Basic Pistol Course), and receive the endorsement of the NRA Training Counselor conducting that training.
